The AGA cooker was invented in 1922 by Gustaf Dalen, a Swedish physicist and Nobel laureate who had lost his sight and set out to design a safer, more efficient range for the home. The heat-storage principle he devised has carried the cooker for a century, and it became an icon of the British kitchen along the way.

More than a cooker, an AGA is a decision about how a kitchen lives. Standing in front of one with a hand on the cast iron is the honest way to weigh that decision, which is exactly what a working floor makes possible.
