Thermador is American luxury with a long memory. It has spent more than a century turning firsts into fixtures, from the wall oven to the sealed gas burner that other kitchens later took for granted.
Two flagship collections carry that heritage forward today, the Masterpiece and the Professional. Seeing them next to each other, alongside the connected controls that run the current models, is the quickest way to read what a century of refinement adds up to.

The company credits its founder, William Cranston, with a run of industry firsts that includes, by Thermador's own account, introducing America to the cooktop. The claim is the brand's, but the century behind it is well documented.
What that heritage buys now is range: sealed burners, precise wall ovens, refrigeration columns and ventilation that a designer can specify as one connected suite. It is a great deal of kitchen from a single name, and it rewards the visit it takes to see the whole line assembled.
Thermador Pro Grand and Liberty ranges in Roseville
Design Gallery has three Thermador cooking centers. In the Yosemite kitchen, a 48-inch Pro Grand dual-fuel range carries Star burners up to 22,000 BTU, an induction zone on the cooktop and a steam and convection oven, under a 48-inch Professional wall hood. In the Monterey kitchen, a 36-inch Liberty induction range from the Pro Harmony line stands beside a 36-inch Professional gas rangetop with Star burners and a griddle.
Gas, induction and both at once, from one maker, within a short walk: that is the comparison most people come for.
The Yosemite display page lists the full kitchen, hickory cabinetry included.
Thermador Freedom columns, panel-ready
Thermador refrigeration is the quieter half of the two kitchens, and the half most often decided too early. Yosemite holds a column set behind the cabinetry: a 30-inch Freedom refrigerator column, an 18-inch freezer column and a 24-inch wine column with three temperature zones, all panel-ready. Monterey adds a 48-inch built-in French-door refrigerator, also panel-ready, a 36-inch counter-depth freestanding model and a 24-inch under-counter wine reserve.
Seeing a column set and a French-door unit in the same visit is the quickest way to decide which one a plan wants. The Monterey display page lists the rest of that kitchen.
Thermador steam, speed and Masterpiece wall ovens
The wall ovens and cooktops in the two kitchens cover most of the line:
two 4.5 cubic foot ovens with side-opening doors, in Monterey.
a 30-inch Professional oven with steam programs, in Monterey.
a speed oven over two convection ovens in one 30-inch column, in Yosemite.
a Masterpiece electric cooktop, a Heritage induction cooktop, a MicroDrawer microwave and a built-in coffee machine, in Monterey.
Open a side-opening door next to a drop-down one and the difference in reach settles itself.
Who owns Thermador
Thermador belongs to BSH Home Appliances, the Bosch group's home appliance business, which acquired it in 1998; the same group owns Gaggenau and Bosch. Thermador itself dates to 1916 and still presents itself as an American luxury brand, with the Professional and Masterpiece collections as its two design languages.
Both collections are in the gallery, which is what lets you judge the two languages against each other rather than from two catalogs.
Where Thermador sits in that group, beside the owner of every other brand here, is set out in the Journal: who makes the brands on our floor.

Where to see it
Seeing Thermador near Sacramento
Eighteen Thermador pieces stand in two finished kitchens at Design Gallery, at 900 Sunrise Ave in Roseville, a short drive from Sacramento: the Yosemite kitchen and the Monterey kitchen. Book a visit to open the ovens, work the controls and see how the columns sit in the cabinetry.
Bring the plan, the cabinet drawings and the people who will cook. Seeing the gas and induction options in one visit usually settles the range before the cabinetry is drawn around it.
Designers can host a client in either kitchen with our team; see the Trade Program for designers.
Frequently asked questions
Who owns Thermador?
BSH Home Appliances, the home appliance business of the Bosch group, which acquired Thermador in 1998. BSH also owns Gaggenau and the Bosch appliance brand. Thermador dates to 1916 and keeps its own design, its Professional and Masterpiece collections, inside that group.
What is the difference between the Thermador Masterpiece and Professional collections?
They are the two Thermador design languages. The Professional collection is the pro-style stainless look, from ranges and rangetops to wall hoods and ovens; the Masterpiece collection is a built-in line of ovens and cooktops. At Design Gallery a Masterpiece double wall oven and Professional ranges stand in the same Monterey kitchen.
Can I see a Thermador Pro Grand range near Sacramento?
Yes. A 48-inch Thermador Pro Grand dual-fuel range with a steam oven and an induction zone is installed in the Yosemite kitchen at Design Gallery in Roseville, under a 48-inch Professional wall hood. Book a visit to open the ovens and work the controls in person.
What Thermador products can I see in the gallery?
Eighteen pieces across two kitchens: a Pro Grand dual-fuel range, a Liberty induction range and a gas rangetop; Freedom refrigerator, freezer and wine columns and a built-in French-door refrigerator; a Masterpiece double wall oven, steam and speed ovens; cooktops, hoods, a MicroDrawer and a coffee machine.
Do you help designers specify Thermador?
Yes. Our team works with designers on collection choice, range configuration, ventilation sizing and rough-in, and a client can be hosted in the room while the appliances run. See the Trade Program for designers.
