Viking is the brand that brought the professional range into the home kitchen. It began in the 1980s, when Fred Carl Jr. could not find a professional-grade range for his own house and set out to build one; ranges shipped from January 1987, Greenwood, Mississippi became the factory in 1989 and 1990, and most of what Viking makes is still built there. Since the end of 2012 the company has belonged to Middleby, a commercial food-service equipment group.
In Roseville, Viking is installed in three finished display kitchens rather than lined up by model: the sage-green RVL kitchen, the Martini-green kitchen and the white-shaker kitchen. The professional lineage is the whole argument. Viking's ranges came out of the commercial kitchen, and the 48-inch gas rangetop in the Martini-green kitchen reads as equipment first and appliance second: heavy grates, six sealed burners, the proportions of a line. The RVL Collection is the newer half of the story, an integrated suite of wall ovens, induction, warming drawers, dishwashing, ventilation and panel-ready refrigeration designed to sit inside custom cabinetry.
For a designer, three Viking kitchens on one floor is a specification tool: the same brand in a painted Segue kitchen matched to Viking's own Martini color, a slab-front RVL kitchen in supermatt green, and a white kitchen with a freestanding French-door refrigerator, so a client sees the brand in the register their house is drawn in.
Where Viking appliances are made
Viking makes the majority of its products in Greenwood, Mississippi. The company's own account runs like this: Fred Carl Jr. wanted a professional range for his home in the early 1980s and none existed; the first Viking ranges shipped in January 1987 from a contract manufacturer; Viking began building its own rangetops in Greenwood in 1989 and moved all production in-house there in 1990. It has been headquartered in Greenwood since. The Middleby Corporation acquired it on December 31, 2012, and since February 2026 Viking has belonged to Composition Brands, the former Middleby residential kitchen unit, majority-owned by 26North.

Viking 7 Series and 5 Series in Roseville
Viking names its lines by series, and two of them are installed at Design Gallery:
a 48-inch dual-fuel range with six burners and a griddle in Viking's Martini color, with integrated 7 Series wine, refrigerator and freezer columns, in the Lucca kitchen.
a 30-inch induction range in the Chelsea kitchen, a 24-inch dishwasher in Verona and a 15-inch undercounter wine cellar in Florence.

The Viking RVL Collection, installed
The Verona kitchen at Design Gallery is a full Viking RVL Collection suite in black glass: a 48-inch induction cooktop with a downdraft that rises from the counter, a 36-inch induction cooktop, a 30-inch double wall oven, a 30-inch warming drawer and a 36-inch ceiling-mounted hood, with a 30-inch panel-ready Viking column refrigerator behind DreamLine fronts. RVL is Viking's integrated line, built to sit inside custom cabinetry rather than stand in front of it.

Viking is installed in four finished kitchens at Design Gallery, at 900 Sunrise Ave in Roseville, a short drive from Sacramento: Lucca, Chelsea, Verona and Florence. Viking or Wolf, which is better?
Neither answer is honest on paper. Both are installed in Roseville: Wolf is what our chefs cook on at demonstrations, and Viking is the professional-range originator with the integrated RVL suite. Stand at both, try the controls, and decide for the way you cook.
